Dr. Netra Prasad Timsina
Director
Introduction
Netra Prasad Timsina grew up in a peasant family in an agrarian setting until 1990, and was engaged in student movements for freedom and social justice from school through to the end of university. He earned his PhD from the Department of International Development, University of Reading, United Kingdom (1998–2002), with a specialisation in the political economy of natural resource management. He began his career in the natural resource management sector — agriculture and forestry research and development — alongside activism for human rights and democracy through national and international networks, including trade unions, farmer organisations and critical think tanks. He has also worked in international relations, particularly with universities in Asia and Europe on natural resource and climate issues, and served briefly as a diplomat. Given this experience across development, human rights and diplomacy, he prefers to introduce himself as an individual with interdisciplinary professional experience, based primarily in natural resource management. He has coordinated and facilitated numerous regional and global multi-country platforms on transboundary issues, and played a key role in organising the World Social Forum 2024 in Kathmandu. He has contributed to the C20 engagement process on behalf of Least Developed Countries at G20-related events in Bali (2022) and New Delhi (2023), and has participated as a delegate at several UNFCCC Conferences of the Parties.
